Putting Together a Detroit Avenue Building After Car Crash

The first step was securing the foundation of the Dollar Discount and Beauty store at 12400 Detroit Avenue.

After a 72-year-old man crashed his car through the Dollar Discount and Beauty store on Detroit Avenue, the work to repair the building is ongoing.

The man, who wasn’t seriously injured in the crash, told police that his gas pedal got stuck between the mat and the floor in the early morning of March 8.

After the crash, much of the front of the building lay in rubble

The store — now open — was closed for a few weeks following the crash.

Dru Siley, the city’s director of building and housing, said the first step was securing the foundation of the structure at 12400 Detroit Avenue.

“(The owners’) near-term goal was to shore up the building,” said Siley. “We expect to get some plans in the near future."
