Paisley Monkey Celebrates Grand Opening of Its Detroit Avenue Store

has got a new home on Detroit Avenue.

The children’s retailer moved recently from its .

Owners Tom and Tamara Racin said the new space at 14417 Detroit Ave. offers a little more visibility.

And with a bigger space, the retailer is able to carry more goods.

Paisley Monkey offers designer brands for infants, toddlers and apparel, accessories and games for children up to 10 years old.

There's also stuff for adults, too, including socks, bags and scarves. 

In addition to the classic lines the store has sold, Paisley Monkey is now carrying new lines that include Jelly the Pug, Tea Collection, Magnificent Baby and Green Toys.

Tamara Racin said it’s good timing.

“There’s been a real insurgence of ‘buy local’ in town,” she said. “Everybody wants to buy local — which is wonderful.”

Paisley Monkey is just one of a number of businesses on Detroit Avenue undergoing a transformation. Just up the street, both and have remodeled their Detroit Avenue locations, and the University of Akron is set to open in the Bailey Building on Thursday.

“It’s a great time to have a business in Lakewood,” she said. “For these economic times, it’s great to see business investing in Lakewood.”

Tamara Racin launched her business online six years, and last year opened up the location on Warren Road. But, at 300 square feet, space became an issue.

The new store has about 850 square feet.

"This place really isn't big enough either," she said. "But it will have to do for now."
