New Leadership Announced at Lakewood Hospital

is getting a new president.

Robert Weil — who is currently the senior vice president of surgical operations at Lakewood Hospital — is set to take over the post Jan. 1, 2012.

Cleveland Clinic officials announced the change on Monday.

Janice Murphy, who serves as president of both Fairview and Lakewood hospitals, will retain her post as the president of Fairview Hospital.

Weil, a neurosurgeon who specializes in neurosurgical oncology, will continue to see patients, perform surgeries, conduct research, and remain active in teaching medical and graduate students as well as residents and fellows in training, according to a press release.

Weil, who joined Cleveland Clinic in 2004, is director of the Pituitary & Neuro-endocrine program in the Rose Ella Burkhardt Brain Tumor & Neuro-Oncology Center within Cleveland Clinic’s Neurological Institute.

He graduated from Yale University with a bachelor’s degree in history, received his medical degree from the University of Missouri, and an MBA from Case Western Reserve University, according to a press release.

Weil performed his early surgical and pathology training at the University of Chicago and Washington University, and he completed a neurosurgical residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. 

He performed basic science research and clinical fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania in neuroscience and epilepsy surgery.

“It’s an honor to work with the staff at Lakewood Hospital," Weil said in a prepared statement. “We’re committed to high quality care for our patients and realizing operating efficiencies that will continue to meet the needs of those who entrust us with their care.”

Murphy has served as the president of Lakewood Hospital since 2010; she's been at the helm at Fairview Hospital since 2007.

The Cleveland Clinic also named Brian Donley, senior vice president of surgical operations at Lutheran Hospital, the new president of Lutheran Hospital.
