New Family Dollar (Finally) Opens

The dollar store first announced its intention to move to the former Ganley Auto site in the summer of 2011.

The lights are on; the shelves are stocked; and customers streamed into the new Family Dollar store for its first day in business at 13215 Detroit Avenue on Thursday.

It’s been a long wait for those customers, after the dollar store first announced its intention to move to the former Ganley Auto site in the summer of 2011.

“Everything is going very smoothly so far,” said store manager Annette Ortiz. “The community has been very supportive and they’ve been waiting for this to happen.

The new Family Dollar — employing 10 people — is slated to mark its official grand opening on Saturday.

The store is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days per week.

“The only day we are not open is Christmas,” she said.
