Menchie's Frozen Yogurt Set For September Opening in Lakewood

National chain to take both storefronts next to Five Guys on Detroit Avenue.

Lakewood is about to get a little cooler.

In a frozen yogurt kind of way.

Menchie’s, a self-serve frozen yogurt shop, is expected to open its doors on Detroit Avenue by September.

The national chain — brought to Ohio by Stark Enterprises, a partner in the Crocker Park shopping center in Westlake — will occupy both vacant storefronts next to the restaurant in the 15000 block of Detroit Avenue.

“(We're) still working on the build-out (plans),” said Menchie’s spokeswoman Lisa Schwan.

Menchie’s officials submitted building plans to the city for review last week, and will likely be approved for a building permit within a month, said Dru Siley, the city’s director of planning and development.

“They’re going to be in the heart of downtown,” he added. “With Lakewood’s walkability, I think it will be a good fit.”

Menchie’s made its official debut in the Cleveland area in June, when it opened its doors at Eton Chagrin Boulevard in Woodmere.

The franchise frozen yogurt has big plans. Five more stores are expected to open by the end of August, and within three years, about 30 will be open in neighborhoods across Northeast Ohio, said Schwab.
