Lakewood Leaders Talk Downtown Growth

Downtown Lakewood Business Alliance hosts open house to socialize, discuss growth and promotion of city's businesses.

More than 25 businesses owners and civic leaders got together Thursday at to socialize — but they also got down to business.

The open house event, hosted by the Downtown Lakewood Business Alliance, focused on promoting and growing the city’s downtown district.

Speakers included Mary Anne Crampton of , David Stein of and Mayor . They talked about range of issues, including the organization’s successes and the future challenges in the city.

“Two years ago, a bunch of us got together,” said Stein. “We were business owners, service owners and we got together and said ‘we are concerned about what’s going on in downtown. How can we get heard? How can we get things to happen? How can we benefit this community?’”   

“It didn’t turn into all of us getting together and just having coffee, it really became — and continues to be — extremely productive.”

The organization meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month; no RSVP required. The Downtown Lakewood Business Alliance is open to any business in the downtown Lakewood district, but also welcomes Lakewood businesses from outside the district to participate in the Thursday meetings.
