Humble Wine Bar to Open by June

The folks who brought the successful "gastropub" concept — pairing high-end beer and quality food — to Lakewood are opening a second business in the city.

The lease is signed. The architectural plans are in the works.

The concept for a wine bar in the newly renovated Lakewood Plaza now has a name: Humble Wine Bar.

It's expected to open its doors by June.

The owners of Deagan’s — who brought the successful “gastropub” concept (high-end beer and quality food) to Lakewood — are opening a second business in the city.

This one will offer wine and some wood-fired-oven pizza.

The exterior plans — including a spacious outdoor patio — were expected to be unveiled at the city’s architectural board of review on Thursday, however the item was deferred until next month’s meeting.

But the work on the interior of the 2,000-square-foot space is under way.

The 60- to 70-person seating area will face the Detroit Avenue, with a kitchen in the back — which will include a wood-fired pizza oven.

Dan Deagan, along with his wife, Erika, and partner Dan Stroup plan to open the wine bar in the space just to the east of Discount Drug Mart.

Deagan’s Kitchen and Bar has already proven itself as one of the staples and a main attraction in the downtown Lakewood dining district.

“This will be a nice adition to Lakewood as well as the downtown district,” said Dru Siley, the city’s director of planning and development. “I think they’re going to hit a niche with wood-fired pizza and wine.”

As the ink on the new lease dries, Deagan has kept a lid on many of the details of the new business.

“There aren’t wine bars in Lakewood,” he told Lakewood Patch earlier this year. “We want to do something that Lakewood is lacking.”
