Drug Mart to Drug Mart Walk: Taking a Stroll Through History

Have some fun in the sun this weekend with these awesome events.

1.

Where/When: , 15412 Detroit Ave/ Saturday June 25th 10:30 a.m.

Why Go: It's not a race — but it is an excellent opportunity to get out and check out Lakewood, up close and personal. Join Live Well Lakewood and Discount Drug Mart at 10:30 a.m. on the front sidewalk of Discount Drug Mart West (15412 Detroit Avenue) and walk to Discount Drug Mart East (11900 Detroit Avenue) and back.  Enjoy historic landmarks along the way.

Participants will pick up a walking guide — with historic photos included of what the neighborhood used to look like — and proceed east on the north side of Detroit Avenue.  

The CityWide Street Sale (see below) will also be under way, and walkers are encouraged to check out some bargains in front of some of the stores along the way.

 There will be a cookout from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. after the walk.

Why Go: Sponsored by the Downtown Lakewood Business Alliance, this 2nd Annual Citywide Street Sale is open to all Lakewood residents and businesses for participation.  All registered sale locations will be listed at:  www.downtownlakewood.org

Where/When: , 16106 Detroit Ave/ Saturday June 25th 12-6 p.m.

Why Go: Check out all the interesting arts crafts and knick-knacks at the Local Girl Gallery’s Whimsies and Whatnots Art Show. There will be refreshments as well as a chance to win a basket of whatnots.

Where/When: / Saturday June 25th 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

Why Go: Don’t miss the opening day of the Lakewood Farmers Market this Saturday, June 25!   The market will be open every Saturday, June through October, from 10 am to 1 pm, on Detroit Rd. between Warren and Cook in front of City Center Plaza.

Where/When: / June 22nd – June 26th  

Why Go: This five-day event combines living history, music, education, theater and audience interaction in an exciting community cultural event for all ages.  This year’s theme for the Ohio Chautauqua is the Civil War. Each night under the big tent, a music presentation will set the stage for a living history performance of a pivotal figure from the Civil War.
During the day, adult and children programs at the Lakewood Public Library and Beck Center for the Arts dig deeper into an aspect of the Civil War. For more info and a schedule, go to www.lakewoodhistory.org.
