Drug Mart Parking Lot Getting a Design Overhaul

The owners of the plaza submitted plans to the city that would slightly tweak the traffic patterns at the parking lot.

There’s new asphalt and new striping for parking spaces behind the redesigned Lakewood Plaza — also known as Drug Mart Plaza — on Detroit Avenue.

But that doesn’t necessarily mean that the traffic flows through smoothly.

The owners of the plaza submitted plans to the city that would slightly tweak the traffic patterns at the parking lot.

 “It doesn’t look that much different,” said city planner Bryce Sylvester. “The turn from the Detroit Avenue entrance is tight. Right now, it’s terrible. It’s going to be a lot better.”

He said, if approved by the city’s architectural board of review, there won’t be additional parking spaces but the parking spaces would be shifted for “flow purposes.”

The city, which owns the parking spaces on the Arthur Avenue extension as well as those along the fence at Kauffman Park, will not likely make any changes to its parking spaces.
