Demolition of Lutheran Church is Slow, But Certain

Demolition of the abandoned St. Paul Lutheran Church on Detroit Avenue — and the construction of a  — is well under way.

The former school will be torn down first, but the process to tear down the structures has been slow since .

Now bullzdozers are starting the dirty work.

The property — from 15501 to 15523 Detroit Avenue — will extend from Lakeland to Arthur avenues. The building adjacent to the church, which houses , will also be demolished — but not right away.

City officials have said it’s been difficult to find a reuse for the 107-year-old church, which has sat vacant for the past several years.
