Cotton Set to Open on Detroit Avenue

The new business will be "the place to go to by mid- to high-end sheets, duvets, tablecloths and linens," but the store will also offer a variety of tableware and "one-of-a-kind" ladies handbags.

The space that most recently housed the office of former US Rep. Dennis Kucinich has been completely transformed into Cotton, a high-end linen business.

Where there were once office cubicles, are now rows of classy tableware and duvets.

Cotton owner David Stein, who also owns Plantation Home across Detroit Avenue, said that the new store is slated to open July 19, with a grand opening to follow.

“We’re ready to open now but we still have a few more finishing touches,” he said, noting that the entire inventory is in, but still needs tagged.

The months-long renovation included landscaping, new signs and a relocation of the entrance from the east side of the building to a new main south entrance with concrete walkway.

“I am trying to clean this building up, and modernize it a little,” said Stein at a recent architectural board of review meeting.

City officials have been pleased.

“We wholeheartedly agree with this application,” said ABR member Carl Orban.

“I this is going to liven up the space, and I think it’s a great re-use of the building,” added Bryce Sylvester, the city planner at the architectural board of review meeting.

The building at 14400 Detroit Avenue, built in the early 1920s as Bailey Buick, has housed Kucinich’s Lakewood office for nearly 20 years.
