Barrio Opens Its Doors on Madison Avenue

The bar/restaurant — located in the space of the former Screaming Rooster — specializes in tacos, tequila and whiskey.

Barrio, the popular Mexican restaurant in the Tremont neighborhood in Cleveland, has now opened its doors in Lakewood.

Fittingly, the restaurant opened on Cinco de Mayo over the weekend.

The Barrio co-owners successfully imported the stylish and edgy (yet cozy) atmosphere of the Tremont location.

Kahn and co-owner Sean Fairbairn said business has been great so far.

“We’re excited to be a part of this neighborhood,” said Fairbairn, pointing to the Buckeye Beer Engine next door.

The idea, he said, is to complement other businesses in the area — not compete with them.

“When we found this location, we fell in love with it,” Fairbairn added.

Kahn and Fairbairn said there’s still some work to — including installing two new garage doors on either side of the new entrance.

“We’ve got our bar area, which is fun,” said Kahn. “But, if you’re not into the bar, we’ve got a nice dining area. We’ve got a lot more room than we do in Tremont.”

The restaurant occupies the space of the former Screaming Rooster at 15527 Madison Avenue.

Barrio is open from 4 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 1 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
