Three Injured After Car Crashes Through The Exchange

According to several witnesses, a car pulling out of the Burger King across the street continued forward, and appeared to mistake the gas pedal for the brakes.

Three people were after a car crashed through The Exchange at the corner of Detroit and Gladys avenues at around 12:45 p.m. Saturday.

Mike Monahan, paramedic supervisor at the Lakewood Fire Department, said that three people were taken to area hospitals, including Lakewood Hospital and Fairvew Hospital.

At least two of the three injured were clerks at the store, said Sgt. Timothy Schad of the Lakewood Police Department.

“It’s was wild,” said Wilson Sackett, a barista at the nearby Root Café, who didn’t see the crash but watched the scene as it unfolded afterward.

Schad said police are investigating.

“We’re very lucky that the injuries aren’t more severe and that no one was walking on the sidewalk,” he said.
