Tale of a Foreclosed Property Renovation in Lakewood: Bathrooms

Bathroom renovations on floors 1, 2 and basement

I feel I should apologize for the delay in posting a new blog. I had intended to post an entry, at the very least, once a month and so far I’m not reaching that goal.

I also would like to apologize for my most recent "Kitchen" blog. Looking back on it, I realized that a blog probably not should contain over 80 photos and be nearly 1,000 words.

I will try and be a bit more succinct with my future posts.

Lucky for me, this current blog is going to be about the bathroom renovation which, in the grand scheme of things, is nearly identical to the .

The most significant differences, aside from appliances and a faucet above the stove, would be the dual shower heads and the discovery of the mosaic tile floors under the 1980s linoleum flooring.

The initial plan for the floors was to rip them out entirely, start fresh and install a radiant floor heating system but as soon as we pulled the linoleum and discovered the original tile floor, we instantly knew that we were 86ing the new floor plans. The one issue with this project was that the laminate floor was glued with an awful adhesive.

Because of this, we had to spend many hours on both bathroom floors using a heavy duty stripper (from a company called Aldon). This stuff was twice the cost of what is sold at Home Depot but was certainly the fastest product I’ve used.

Though the floors look beautiful, they certainly have that vintage look with a missing tile or few along the edge and a crack in one of the floors. Regardless of these blemishes, I am ecstatic to have found this intact under the linoleum.

Now as nice as the bathrooms look, we are not quite done. The brunt of the work was completed in early 2008 but the fine tuning of the design has been an ever evolving process. The first floor was officially completed (sans a single piece of trim on the ceiling) about 2 weeks ago. The second floor bathroom, the orange bathroom, will get its final revision sometime winter.

Once again, if you have any question, big or small, please feel free to ask.

Enjoy the photos.
