Ohio Chautauqua: Don't Miss These Headline Events

All evening programs at Lakewood Park include Civil War-themed music by local performers and living history performances by learned scholars.

Editor's note: This is the second story in a series of four, featuring the events of the Ohio Chautauqua in Lakewood. Check out the reported last week, and stay tuned for upcoming stories about adult and children's programs at the event.

Under the Big Tent at Lakewood Park is where the headline entertainment and presentations happen during Ohio Chautauqua.

The 500-seat tent will be set up on the eastside of the park. Residents are encouraged to bring their own comfortable lawn chairs and a picnic to enjoy during the musical and living history performances.

“The big event starts at 7 p.m. when each of the scholars come out in person, have a presentation of about 45 minutes, answer questions in character,” said Mazie Adams, executive director of Lakewood Historical Society. “Then they leave and come back and answer questions as the scholar.”

The Lakewood Kiwanis and Lakewood High School Athletic Boosters will be manning a concession stand near the Bandstand, and there will be plenty of restrooms and parking places.
