How To Celebrate Lakewood's Centennial

From a birthday bash to a beach party, there's a lot to do this weekend.

Happy birthday Lakewood! I've got the best of this week's shows and events, from local singer/songwriters to a winter-busting beach party luau. It's not every day your city turns 100, so get out and celebrate this weekend.

Tonight: Make sure you're at at 7:30 p.m. for the birthday party of the century. Literally. Lakewood is celebrating 100 years as a city, so come out and have some cake, some music and a lot of fun.

Friday: The Drenched Earth Tour comes to the with Chris Castle from Nashville and the Womack Family Band from northern Ohio. Check out this energetic, three act musical production at 9 p.m. for $10.

Check out the folk-pop of locally acclaimed singer/songwriter Brent Kirby with friend Al Moss, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at

Folk blues-rock trio, Gladys Avenue will be at the Root Cafe at 8 p.m.

Saturday If you feel like having fun for a good cause, be at TheAvenue Tap Housefrom 5 to 9 p.m. for A-Dawgs Fist Pumping Fundraiser for Autism. $25 will get you all you can drink Bud Light, Miller Light, or well drinks, and there will be cornhole, beer pong, flipcup, raffles, and more. Proceeds go to the Milestones Autism Organization. Hey Monea will entertain with their soulful alternative rock from 10 until 2.

Copperfoot will be at The Screaming Rooster at 9 p.m., playing their country style rock n roll until one in the morning.

welcomes back party rockers Drunk Betty for a night of fun featuring all of your favorite songs performed live.

If you are looking for an incredibly different sound, you need to check out the Trepanning Trio. This avant-guard instrumental group blends musical elements from the renaissance, classical and modern periods into an eclectic and interesting whole. Wonder what jazz sounds like played on a viola da gamba? Wonder what a viola da gamba even is? Be at the Root Cafe at 8 p.m. and satisfy your musical curiosity.

Sunday: The Avenue Tap House presents the Winter Warmup Luau to beat those winter blues once and for all. They'll have free draughts for the ladies at 10 p.m., free spray tanning, compliments of Neon Beach Tanning and free shots via the Bacardi girls. They're giving away prizes for the best luau gear as well, so try on your new bikinis or surfer shorts, put on your flip flops, hunt down a coconut bra and come play in their giant sandbox. Local band Breakfast Club will be there too, 10 p.m. to 2, hitting you with a tidal wave of 80's hits.
