Get Out, Halloween Edition: Pumpkin Palooza; West End Window Walk; and Pumpkin Fun Run

There are plenty of chances to get your spook on this weekend.

It's the last weekend in October, and you know what that means: it's probably going to snow any day now, big-box stores are already starting to put out Christmas decorations, and there are a million and one ways to celebrate Halloween in Lakewood!

Here are just a few suggestions:

1.

Where/When: ; 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 30.

Why Go: He played with Duke Ellington! As a teacher, a trumpeter and a bandleader, Joe DeJarnette works hard every day to keep the music he loves fresh and alive. Nothing can exhaust his passion. This special pre-Halloween concert, featuring Joe’s handpicked ensemble of friends and rivals, will get downright spooky with slithering syncopation and creepy chromatics. You’ve been warned!

Where/When: ; 1-4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 29

Why Go: It’s Halloween’s Disney World. Imagine lots of carnival games, tables full of crafts for kids to make, a haunted hallway, a costume parade, Halloween songs, yummy food, spooky storytelling, a pumpkin carver surrounded by an awesome patch of decorated pumpkins that anyone can win...all spread out in three giant spaces at Lakewood High School. It's a great way to celebrate fall and show off kids' costumes before Halloween!

Where/When: West End, 15612 to 18624 Detroit Ave.; All Weekend

Why Go: The and the once again are teaming up to present this community window-painting contest. A "Best In Show" prize will be awarded in each of 5 age categories, plus the Group and Family categories. Stroll the West End from October 28th through October 31st to patronize your favorite West End businesses and view over 100 Halloween-themed masterpieces. The Awards ceremony and artists reception will be held on Saturday, October 29th at 2pm at the Beck Center for the Arts.

Where/When: ; 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 29

Why Go: Because music can’t get any more local than this. This is a Showcase featuring the students of in Lakewood.  The students are all ages, young and old.  You will hear everything from jazz to rock to folk and more. Check out the student bands as they perform live!

Where/When: ; 8:45 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 30

Why Go: So you can eat your kids’ extra Halloween candy guilt-free! It kicks off at 8:45 a.m. with a 1-mile Fun Run or Walk for those that want to take the easier route and then the 5 K (3.1-mile) run/walk takes off at 9:15 a.m. and sends participants on a flat course along the city’s beautiful tree-lined streets. Proceeds from the race benefit two local non-profits: and H2O – Help to Others. But that’s not all! Awards will be given in the following categories: top overall male and female runners; top male and female finishers by age brackets, and 10-year age bracket; and best costumes.
