Why Go: Who doesn’t like scary movies? Better question: Who doesn’t like free scary movies? Beyond our borders and outside the mainstream movie world, there are daring, original and often controversial films that we don’t often get to see — movies like Donnie Darko. You might have missed them before, so the Library is bringing the art house closer to home. As always, this film series is sponsored by the Friends of Lakewood Public Library and will be held in the Lakewood Public Library Main Auditorium at 15425 Detroit Avenue. No registration is needed.

5.

Where/When: ; 2 p.m. 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23.

Why Go: From The Conqueror Worm to The Cask of Amontillado, the spine tingling tales of Edgar Allen Poe get a whole lot scarier when they’re set to classical chamber music and read aloud by the performers of WordStage. We might even dim the lights, too! Sunday with the Friends takes place nearly every Sunday at 2 p.m. These programs — featuring musicians, actors, dancers and scholars — are free and open to everyone thanks to generous funding from the Friends of Lakewood Public Library.
