Bike for Beck Tour Gets Ready to Roll

Fundraising event features bike tour and artist showcase on May 19

and Connect to Beck has a special fundraising event that’s good for the body and soul, and it’s all a simple bike ride away.

The organization will host the first annual tour on May 19. It begins at 9 a.m. and starts at the Beck Center and continues through the Metroparks. After the morning bike ride, the Beck Center will have arts and entertainment throughout the center’s campus.

Proceeds from this fundraising event benefit Beck Center’s arts education programs.

“Bike for Beck is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Lakewood’s bikeability while introducing Beck Center to new audiences in a fun, healthy and creative way,” said , Beck Center President and CEO, in a press release.

Lakewood ranked first in the State of Ohio for bikeability, according to American Community Survey, and the city has recently taken measures to further enhance the city’s biking profile.

Cyclist can choose route lengths of 12, 25 and 60 miles. Less-skilled riders can participate in “Music Motion,” a half-mile bike parade where participants can decorate their bikes artistically. Judges will award prizes to the most creative entry. The parade begins at 11:45 a.m.

The Bike for Beck Fest, the after-tour event, will include safety and maintenance demonstrations from Bike Lakewood. The Regional Transit Authority will conduct a bike loading seminar.

Guests will be treated to an exhibit of antique bicycles from 1900-1960 courtesy of , and the will unveil a bicycle-themed exhibit.

Music groups Fireside, The Supposed So, and Revolution Brass Band will perform on the Red Stage. Food trucks Fired Up Taco Truck and Pranzo Forno Wood Fired Pizza will be onsite throughout the afternoon.

Registration is $40 per cyclist and includes an event T-shirt for the first 200 cyclists. In-person registration begins at 9 a.m. the day of the event. The parade participation fee is $5 per person for riders 12 and older.

Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult, with a maximum of three children per each paid adult. Bike for Beck Fest is free and open to the public, except for food and beverage costs.
