In 1909, bubblegum, penicillin, traffic signals, and FM radio hadn’t been invented yet. The Star Spangled Banner was not yet the National Anthem.
That year — on Jan. 22 — Lakewood resident Margaret Steffen was born.
On Tuesday, Steffen celebrated her 104th birthday at the Lakewood Senior Health Campus with friends and family at her side. She’s believed to be the oldest resident in the city.
Having just beaten the flu, she was a little sleepy, but still had a nice time at her party.
Wish you the best of this year and beyond.
