Patch Picks: Five Most Excellent Boutiques
Whimsy. Vintage. Organic. Fair Trade. We have it all in Lakewood.
The most basic definition of boutique is “small shop” so as you can imagine Lakewood is the heartland for such compact consumerism. But beyond the size, it’s the unique quality of products and special finds that make shopping so fun in our city.
We were charged with featuring just five of our best boutiques so we whittled our list to these faves:
– Scents of jasmine and sandalwood hit you as you open the door to this shop celebrating 15 years in the business of providing gifts for all ages. Think incense, candles, handmade jewelry, Fair Trade clothing for kids and adults, Mexican clay art, small instruments, wooden boxes and other cultural finds.

– This colorful boutique sells stylish diaper bags, infant and toddler clothing, books, backpacks, greeting cards and a full line of Green Toys featuring a recycling truck and indoor gardening kit. Housed in the First Federal of Lakewood Building, this shop just opened in 2010.
GreenSmart Gifts – Into recycling, non-toxic products, organic materials? This gift shop is for you. Locally made products by local artists, organic greeting cards, wooden toys, environmentally friendly T-shirts being green messages, and products made from recycled materials are featured throughout the store located next to Aladdin’s Eatery on Detroit Avenue.

Radiance Organics – Find organic products and teachings promoting health and well being at this boutique located on Detroit, between Elbur and Wyandotte. Open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day of the week, except Sunday and Wednesday. Every Wednesday, the shop offers free lectures at 7:30 p.m. on Transcendental Meditation. Lots of gift ideas and personal care items such as skin care, massage oils, teas, candles, incense, jewelry, organic clothing for kids and adults, scarves and pottery.
– You never know what treasure you’ll find inside this whimsical shop that rotates its merchandise often. Breathing new life into home furnishings and collectibles is what this business does best. You’ll be sure to discover vintage furniture, throwback decorations and lovely gifts throughout.
