It's a Winter Wonderland in Lakewood

From jazz music to the Light Up Lakewood event, the city's about to turn into a very festive place.

Santa Claus is coming to town.

So are several holiday events during the next few days.

All that’s missing is the snow.

Whether it’s listening to jazz music while getting your photo taken with Santa or attending the sixth-annual Light Up Lakewood event Saturday, you should be able to get your holiday fix soon.

Here are a few of the holiday events posted during the next several weeks leading up to Christmas:

Light Up Lakewood: Dec. 1. This classic event stretches from Marlowe to Arthur avenues — from Lakewood Hospital to Lakewood Public Library — from 4 to 8 p.m. when Lakewood turns into a virtual winter wonderland. Click here for a complete schedule of activities and events. The parade will begin at 5 p.m., marching west on Detroit Avenue, from Bunts to Arthur avenues. Santa will go on his pied-piper march back to Lakewood Hospital for the official lighting ceremony following the parade. The parade will be followed by a street fair, with numerous street performers, an outdoor showing of “that famous reindeer movie” at the library, street hockey and food trucks.

Santa Claus, jazz music comes to town: Dec. 1. Mahall’s 20 Lanes will host Santa Claus and local jazz legend Dominick Farinacci for a free event from 12 to 3 p.m. Saturday. To celebrate the season of giving, Farinacci and Kevin Miletti are collecting toys for the young victims of Hurricane Sandy. Miletti’s Screamin' Demon Monster Truck will be parked outside Mahall's during the event. Those attending are encouraged to bring a new toy to donate. Toys will be loaded onto the truck and driven to NYC in time for Christmas. Bring your camera, because Santa will also be available the entire time for a photo opp.

Holiday Wreath Sale: Nov. 29. The Lakewood Historical Society is hosting the wreath sale at 14710 Lake Avenue at 9 a.m. Celebrate the holiday season by displaying a beautiful handcrafted 30-inch mixed greenery wreath adorned by artificial snow-covered eucalyptus and red berries. The wreath and red ribbon with gold trim were crafted in the USA and are for sale for $35. Proceeds benefit the programs and projects of the Lakewood Historical Society. Sip into the Holidays: Nov. 30. stArt Neo is hosting the fifth-annual event at Wobblefoot Gallery from 7 to 10 p.m. The Auction and Chinese Raffle will showcase local artists’ work of custom painted glassware, themed gift baskets and other artist created holiday items all to benefit Lakewood Commission’s mission of providing quality programming and support for Lakewood’s senior citizens. Downtown Lakewood Merchant’s Holiday Open House: Dec. 6. Get a jump on your Holiday shopping and enjoy the lights and holiday decorations all along the Downtown Lakewood shopping district from 6 to 10 p.m. Dec. 6. Participating merchants will offer early shoppers special promotions and refreshments. Children’s book signing and photo-op with Twinkle Toes at Paisley Monkey. Toys for Tots at Lakewood Dog Park: Dec. 8 and Dec. 9. Donate new, unwrapped toys to Toys for Tots at Lakewood Dog Park, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days. Friends of the Lakewood Dog Park is sponsoring this Toys for Tots donation drive as part of their 2012 community outreach mission. Click here for more information.

Candy Cane Lane: Dec. 13. Wine tasting, eat and treats, giveaways, holiday shopping specials and a 'special' appearance. Uptown Lakewood is sponsoring the holiday open house from 5 5o 8 p.m. Dec. 13.
