Could This Former Lakewood Resident be the Next Pope?

Sean Patrick O’Malley, born in Lakewood, is the archbishop of the Boston diocese. If you believe the buzz swirling around the issue, he’s among the candidates to replace Pope Benedict XVI.

A former Lakewood resident is being considered one of the front-runners for to become the next Pope after the recent unexpected resignation of Pope Benedict XVI.

Area (and national) news sources are reporting that Sean Patrick O’Malley, the archbishop of the Boston diocese since, is being mentioned as a contender for the papal post.

O’Malley was born in Lakewood, but raised in Western Pennsylvania.

According the Boston Globe, the 68-year-old O’Malley lightheartedly talked about the idea.

“I haven’t lost any sleep about it, and I have bought a round-trip ticket, so I’m counting on coming home,” he said.

In addition to his stint in Boston, O’Malley has served as bishop for the diocese of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands and Palm Beach, FL.

Jimmy, I agree..but its the local TV stations that take the prize. Theyll lead with the recent murder on the eastside. Im sorry for the victim and the enviorment so many of these people live in, but what does it really mean to me? Sound callous?..its so common it looses its impact! But when theres a recall of food product (Stouffers recently) that could effect thousands of households were lucky if its the 5th or 6th story in their line-up! In fact if these stations really cared about the public they SERVE theyd run a crawl all day..who knows when people tune-in (it could be a "boil alert"). It seems to be true.."if it bleeds it leads"...public safety..yawn. Wonder what the FCC would say? So, if the lil PATCHs "breaking news" choices astound you imgine if O'Malley had dined on the wrong Stouffers (also with Lkwd roots)?....WOW..team coverage!!!

It would be cool to see the Popemobile in the 4th of July parade.

Colin..youre welcome! The"lil PATCH" in a community like Lakewood, that is so socially active is a wonderful tool. The opportunity for so many voices to speak-up on their issues so immediately makes Lakewood & the PATCH the perfect MATCH! And in my mind makes the "lil PATCH" a valuable & BIG part of our community.."thanks"! Note: Mr Grimm..your humor doesnt match your name..keep it up!
