Lakewood Dog Park a Dog-Lover's Delight

Dogs Lovers Wanted: From 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29; Lakewood Public Library, Multi-purpose room.

How would you answer these questions?

  1. Are you the kind of person that loves dogs?
  2. Do you like to smile and have a good time?
  3. Do you enjoy making new friends and socializing?
  4. Do you have the belief that giving of your time, talents and skills is the “right thing to do” to give back to your community?
  5. Are you the kind of person that has energy, helpful ideas and works well with other people to accomplish goals and feel self satisfied?

Were most of your answers YES? Then you’re in good company!

We love dogs! We treat them like family and consider them a blessing in our lives. We smile every day at the antics of our animals and enjoy time spent with our dogs and other “pet parents”. Socializing is what we do! We share a common bond with one another; friendships are formed, relationships have blossomed and we look out for each other. We have a belief that we all need to support our community to keep it safe, clean and enjoyable for everyone. We join together to achieve one mission.

Want to socialize? Dave boasts, “We come to everyday. Bailey, my dog, has her buddies she can’t wait to see and so do I. That’s why I volunteer.”

New to town? A transplant to Lakewood, Kaylee tells us, “The Lakewood Dog Park was a place for me to meet new, life long friends.  Park patrons come from so many different backgrounds and are so diverse, yet we all have one thing in common - the ability to speak ‘dog’. I met my fiancée working on projects with Friends of the Lakewood Dog Park”.

Need to hone your skills or build up your resume? Want to feel fulfilled? Deirdre explains, “Volunteering with FLDP has brought a lot of joy into my, as well as my dog's, life and that is something I am very grateful for”.

Believe that what you do really does make a difference in the world? Tammy proclaims, “Volunteering is something I’ve done from a young age. I feel very strongly that volunteering is something that everyone should do. Because we use Lakewood Dog Park, we have a responsibility to make sure it is a clean, safe and fun place for our dogs”.

Are you a devoted dog owner? Lynne sums it up, “I volunteer with Friends of the Lakewood Dog Park because it is already a great place to take my dogs and anything I can do to ensure that it continues is well worth it.”

Is your dog the most well-behaved on the block? Are you versed in “dog-speak”?  We’ve got a spot for you!

Can you hit a sales quota like nobody else? Is party planning a passion? Do people call you a “fashion-ista”? Perfect! You’ll fit right in.

Are you affectionately known as an IT geek? Do you have an avocation in the arts? Do you aspire to design or create graphics? Maybe the ad biz is more your style? Marketing geniuses can also apply. Whether you’re a “Boomer” or young fledgling, we appreciate you all!

Bean counters and businesspeople have lots of options too. If you speak “legal-ease”, can decipher a ledger, navigate a networking event, or are blessed to be able to write an awesome grant proposal - you’ve found your philanthropic “home” with us.

If you only have time to bake a pan of brownies once a year, do some yardwork once a season, or serve a leadership role with several hours a week, FLDP has a spot for you.
