Five New Businesses Opening in Lakewood This Summer

From high-end linens to sushi, Lakewood is attracting some new, fantastic businesses.

Just like the past few years, the summer of 2013 is full of new business openings.

We thought we’d share some of the highlights of this year’s action.

We couldn’t possibly get them all on this list. Did we miss any you’d like to see on here? This won’t be the last time we’ll do this.

Here are five, in no particular order:

  1. Cotton: The space that most recently housed the office of former US Rep. Dennis Kucinich has been completely transformed into Cotton, a high-end linen business. Where there were once office cubicles, are now rows of classy tableware and duvets.
  2. Humble Wine Bar: The owners of Deagan’s — who brought the successful “gastropub” concept (high-end beer and quality food) to Lakewood — are opening a second business in the city. This one will offer wine and some wood-fired-oven pizza.
  3. Roxu: Lakewood’s got sports bars, taco/burger joints and specialty craft beer haunts. But no offerings. Roxu, a new sushi bar at 15603 Madison Avenue, is expected to open later this summer and change all that.
  4. Campbell’s Sweets Factory is set to open by September at the prominent corner of Warren Road and Detroit Avenue. Specializing in popcorn, chocolate and cupcakes, the store will make all of its goods sold at the Lakewood store at its new location.
  5. Brew 133 is opening its doors in the space most recently occupied by Sullivan’s Irish Pub at 13368 Madison Avenue. The new spots is expected to be "a bar first, not restaurant first.” Think more than a dozen 50-inch flat screens, skee-ball and bar games.
