Cleveland Magazine recently rated Lakewood as the city to live in For the Bike Authority. This is no accident. The City of Lakewood starts early by teaching kids bike safety and showing them how much fun riding a bike safely can be.

On Saturday, I took my son, Nick to Lakewood's 3rd Annual Bike Rodeo at Madison Park. The SE parking lot was setup with tents and bike courses with Lakewood Auxillary Police Officers guiding and teaching young bikers how to navigate the course.

The tents offered free bike registration, bike safety check and adjustment if needed (Nick needed his bike seat raised because he grew over the winter), and helmet adjustment and check for proper fit (again, due to the winter growth spurt, we discovered Nick needed a new, bigger helmet).

A checklist was provided at registration and upon completion of all the stations and safety courses bikers were presented with a certificate of completion.

After the stations were closed for the day, a demonstration of bike tricks was performed by experienced riders and a raffle for brand new boys and girls bikes took place.

Nick had a blast, and after we get him a larger helmet, we will be biking all over Lakewood this summer.
