Asbestos removal had been completed, marquee removed, and a few additional tasks involving utilities such as moving electrical and phone lines - demolition of the Detroit Theatre began today. Demolition began with the rear of the theatre and is expected to take at least three weeks.

What part of the building had the brick arches?
( interesting that it's going from brick arches to 'the golden arches!)

The area where the arches were discovered was a surprise to several people - the arches weren't visible from inside the theater. It appears as though an addition was built around them. And yes, as soon as the arches were revealed, I immediately thought of the irony of them being replaced with Golden Arches.

Going to miss the old theatre but it was becoming an eyesore and am looking forward to all of the revitaliztion along Detroit Rd., i.e GetGo, McDonalds, new DrugMart & Quaker Steak.
