Another layer of the Detroit Theatre has been removed; this time revealing curtains and other fabric hanging off of the old building. The building has been demolished up to the lobby/snack bar area — from the right angle on Woodward Avenue, you can see the other side of Detroit Avenue through the lobby doors.

These are extraordinary photos that are both beautiful and sad. They almost remind me of a set design for a not-so-happy drama. Thank you for sharing.

Demolition never comes without sorrow for times past. Progress is always painful for those who remember. These photos should archived for posterity's sake and the future generations who might ask: "What was here before McDonald's?" Historians will gladly tell the story of the Detroit Theatre and how it made so movie goers happy.
