Zappitelli's Closes Its Doors on Madison Avenue

Power outage was the "straw that broke the camel's back."

It seems as if a three-day power outage was the “straw that broke the camel’s back” for Zappitelli’s on Madison.

The pizza shop — voted the pizza in Lakewood by Lakewood Patch readers — announced Thursday that it was closing its doors.

Adam Carroll, the pizza shop’s owner, told Lakewood Patch in August that the shop would close by the end of the year.

"The power outage was the straw that broke that camel's back," he said on Thursday. "It's over."

In an email newsletter, Zappitelli’s customers learned the fate of the pizza shop — which has recently had issues with the city regarding dine-in tables, as well as with neighbors who have complained about parking.

“We’ve had an absolute wonderful year, met so many wonderful people and had a ton of fun throughout this amazing ride we’ve called Zappitelli’s on Madison,” said Laurie Solomon, who worked at the shop with her son, co-owner Adam Carroll.

“It’s been a wild one and will cherish the many memories.”

Those with gift certificates or those with “Zapp’s Cash” are encouraged to reach out to Solomon.

“We would like to find a way to repay you, even if we have to come cook at your house,” she said in the newsletter.

Carroll said that he and his business partners are looking at spaces on the West Side to open a new restaurant.

"At this point, we're keeping our options open," he said.
