Failed fireworks show
The Fourth of July fireworks show was canceled, much to the disappointment — and anger — of the thousands of people packed into Lakewood Park. The show wasn't rescheduled, but the city received a full refund.

The Waterbury Avenue shooting that left one man dead, and another injured, attracted all sorts of interest in January. The shooting was the result of a robbery-gone-bad.
Sherwon Wanzo, a student at Lakewood High School, was shot and killed on Cleveland’s west side on April 15, after he left a party. His killer was never caught.

The story of Mary Gannon, a teacher at Lakewood High School, went viral after Lakewood Patch reported her story in September. Gannon was born without arms. But she never let that get in her way of following her dreams.

This year, the city finished its comprehensive housing survey — an effort to examine every home in the city to determine which ones met the city housing code. Lakewood Patch compiled a complete database to look up the properties in Lakewood that needed some work. Many of those homes were improved since the initial survey was released.

Wow.. other than the inspiring teacher, there is a focus on the negative here for sure.

Tend to agree, Chris. These were the most-talked about stories... There are others, such as "Taco Truck Makes Its Debut in Lakewood" and "Eddie 'N Eddie Opens on Detroit Avenue"... I have to admit that I prefer writing "positive" stories. But when someone gets hurt/killed in our city, people are going to be interested in those stories. What were some of your favorite stories?

Agree. They could have at least added a few more good/positive stories, or 2 more to make it 12 top stories of the year.

OK, guys. I am officially adding "Taco Truck Makes Its Debut in Lakewood" and "Eddie 'N Eddie Opens on Detroit Avenue." Thanks for the input! Anyone else want to nominate favorite stories of 2012?
