Lakewood has seen its share of big news in 2011.
This week, we’re going to run our Top 10 most-popular stories of the year, but we’d like to ask what were your favorite stories of 2011.
There’s been plenty of action — so there’s plenty to choose from.
We have had a political merry-go-round that started when former-mayor Ed FitzGerald was elected as Cuyahoga County’s first-ever county executive and councilwoman Nickie Antonio was elected to the statehouse. Those changes set in motion a chain of office vacancies, appointments and departmental shifts in city government.
News broke at the beginning of the year that the Detroit Theatre property was going to be sold and demolished to make way for a new McDonald’s.
There’s been more, too. Lakewood celebrated its 100th year as a city; there have been several development projects that have gotten under way; and Lakewood has become sort of a mini Hollywood with several movies shot here.
What do you think was the biggest story in Lakewood for 2011? Tell us in the comments, and the staff at Lakewood Patch will take your suggestions and organize them into a poll for readers to pick the biggest story of 2011.

Lakewood City Council revisiting the VICIOUS Pit Bull Issue, and not joining Cleveland with abolishing the ban altogether, and putting some real laws into place that prosecute the bad owners of all breeds, and really help to protect the public. Sugar coating just in time for the holidays.
