What Lakewood Streets Would You Like to See Repaved?

Each year, the city analyzes the streets and sets out to repave the ones in roughest shape during the summer. A few of those streets have already been announced.

Last week, Lakewood City Council OK’d capping the cost of the city’s summer repaving projects at $1.5 million.

City officials already have an idea of some of the streets that need to be paved the most.

We thought we’d ask you to weigh in: What streets are the worst?

Each year, the city analyzes the streets and sets out to repave the ones in roughest shape during the summer.

There were several listed in the ordinance, but Joe Beno, the city’s public works director, said that they are subject to change.

And usually do by the time repaving season rolls around.

The streets that will be paved are: Marlowe Avenue; the Arthur Avenue extension; Lewis Drive, from Detroit to Franklin; Summit Avenue, between Clifton and Lake Avenue; Lakeland Avenue, south of Detroit Avenue; Olive Avenue, between Hilliard Road and Delaware Avenue; Cove Avenue, between Lake and Clifton; and Woodward Avenue, south of Interstate 90.

“And these are not definite,” said Beno.

In addtition, the city also has plans to repave the entire length of Madison Avenue, but that's another project using different funds.

Should the bids come in lower than expected, city officials would consider additional streets for repaving.

Tell us in the comments the streets you’d like to see paved. Who knows, maybe we’ll put it to a poll.

I would like to see Northland Ave. between Madison and Detroit. It looks awful and partly because we get traffic from the Rite Aid, the Northland Plaza, the Senior center and fire trucks and ambulances frequently use our street for a cut through. It seems that so many streets to the east and west of us have already been repaved, it's our turn.

Totally agree. It gets a lot of traffic from Harding parents after morning drop offs.

I agree, Jackie! That stretch of Northland between Madison & Detroit Ave. is in great need of repaving--pothole repair just won't cut it this year.

The Original Bill, there is a stretch from the Hilliard split eastward that isn't all better now.

Geeze! What about the 250 feet of Woodward south of the South Marginal-what a neglected piece of Lakewood that is!And on the subject of Woodward,as you go down the hill north of Hilliard,Woodward once again is a gem.The truck traffic from building the new school trashed the already rough street.

Woodward South of Hilliard was one of the first streets paved by a city crew probably 20-25 years ago. I don't think paving in house worked out that well. A small section from about 2220 Woodward running South about 8 houses had the West side of the street repaved possibly 10-15 yrs. ago. That's the only decent portion. A section by Margaret has been torn up 4-5 times to fix a water problem. The rest of the street is rough.
I think Woodward between Madison & Hilliard should be considered for a concrete surface. Make sure the base is solid as well. That section gets a ton of traffic & has usually been a mess. People should be watching out for school kids rather than dodging bad sections of the road.

Hey Patch, last month you said Madison Ave repaving was delayed until 2014. Sure they want to accellerate it but your quotes also said the City had to find the money! So, which is it? Hey Patch...what about Marlowe Avenue? Really? There are four sections of Marlowe, the worst being the section South of Madison. The City will only do one section in any given year. So which section is it? And to "Original Bill" you are right! They did pave South Marginal...one small portion of it...the rest is still a mess!

Hey Bob. I believe it's the portion of Marlowe Avenue section south of Madison... And as far as Madison Avenue, they're still just plans. I don't believe the city has secured funding yet. Stay tuned. Thanks for posting.

I weighed in already in your previous article but I will weigh in again. Edwards
Ave. was repaved a number of years ago except the small part of Edwards between Clifton and Lake. The reason for not finishing the entire street at the time was cost. It seems unfair to not finish this small section now. It really needs it and I believe it is imperative to finish what we start. Some of the residents have asked over and over when will this part of Edwards get repaved and frankly their feelings about local government are negative due to this lack of follow through. Please finish what you have started. It needs it and it is the fair thing to do.

Carabel was repaved in 2008 but again has some huge potholes that resemble missile-proving grounds. As with Northland between Detroit and Madison, Carabel gets a lot of through traffic for folks looking to cross I-90 etc.
