US Rep. Kucinich to Host Military Academy Day

Encourages high school students Interested in a military education to attend.

Interested in a military career?

US Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich has announced plans for his annual Academy Day to take place May 14 in his on Detroit Avenue.

Kucinich said in a statement that representatives from the Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, U.S. Military and Naval Academies will be available for individual consultation with interested students and parents. Applications for nomination will also be available.

All academies except the Coast Guard require congressional nomination.

“Academy Day is an opportunity for students to learn more about educational opportunities available to them at the five U.S. service academies,”Kucinich said in a statement. “We’ll have representatives from those academies on hand to answer any questions from students as well as parents, and to advise students of the materials they’ll need to accompany the applications they submit this year.”

Nomination applications for classes beginning in July 2012 must be submitted to Congressman Kucinich by Oct. 15. Academy Day alerts students to their requirements when applying for nomination. Students must be high school graduates, between the ages of 17 and 23 by July 1, 2012 to be considered for nomination for classes starting in July 2012.

Academy Day begins at 10 a.m. on May 14 at Kucinich’s Lakewood office, 14400 Detroit Avenue. Students and parents unable to attend Academy Day can receive information by calling or writing Kucinich’s district office at 14400 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio 44107, or 216-228-8850.
