Work continues on the Detroit Avenue Signalization Project, with poles and lights going up and crews have activated some of the new lights, according to Lakewood officials. 

The traffic signals on Detroit Avenue between Ridgewood and Arthur are expected to be completed by end of summer. Those lights will be synchronized to improve the traffic flow on Detroit.

“Replacing the signals on Detroit Avenue is a huge project which will significantly improve the traffic flow on Detroit,” Mayor Mike Summers said in a press release. “We hope to have most of the lights synchronized by the end of summer. We appreciate the patience of motorists in our city as we complete this traffic improvement project.”

In addition to the new lights and poles, new street signs are also being installed.

The next phase of the project will include Detroit Avenue between Lakeland and Sloane. The new traffic poles have been installed and work has begun on the wiring for the lights, the city reports.

The $3 million Detroit Avenue project is funded mostly with federal CMAQ (Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality) funds, with the remaining 20 percent coming from city funds. 

The Detroit signal project is part of the city’s overall traffic signal replacement program, which is occurring in five stages. Clifton Boulevard was phase one. Detroit Avenue is phases two and three. Phase four will be include Madison Avenue and phase five will include Franklin Boulevard and Hilliard Road.
