Three Birds Restaurant in Lakewood Changes Ownership
Owners of Around the Corner buy the upscale restaurant from James Bell.
The Three Birds restaurant on Detroit Avenue is changing hands.
But the new owners say that patrons shouldn’t expect too many changes to the upscale restaurant.
The owners of Around the Corner, Mickey Krivosh, and his son, Ryan Krivosh, recently purchased Three Birds at 18515 Detroit Avenue.
The previously owner, James Bell — who has owned the restaurant for the past eight years — decided to sell the restaurant, hoping to spend more time with his family.
The new owners will keep the name Three Birds, but have agreed to change the name within six months.
But that’s about the only change expected.
All of the employees are staying onboard and Chef Rachael Spieth will stay in the kitchen. The menu is also expected to remain the same.
However, there are plans in the works for a jazz club, to be situated at the rear of the adjacent property, according to city officials.
The exchange marks the first time in more than 80 years that a member of the Bell family has not occupied that block.
Last month, Bonne Bell — the international cosmetics company once headquartered in Lakewood — announced it was closing the doors at Detroit Avenue and Graber Drive and moving operations to the Westlake location.

Do the Krivosh's have any experience running a fine dining establishment? Around the Corner is great, but the clientele and business model is totally different. I worry about the future of Three Birds.

This is great news! Very excited to hear that Three Birds is staying and that a vibrant restaurant will stay open - under any name. Lakewood is a thriving community and with neighborhood establishments maintaining and willing to adapt to current environments, we will be sure to stay a great place to live and a great place for other Clevelanders to visit.

I'm not really happy about this at all. I echo Bryan's concern -- I'm not sure if the Krivoshes are up to the challenge.
Around the Corner was always okay for a beer and a burger (except the last time I went...the waitstaff were so busy watching TV and chatting with each other, they couldn't be bothered to acknowledge us or even offer us a menu. We waited for 20 minutes, and then left...never to return).
If that same type of "service" and ethic is transferred to Three Birds, it won't take long to alienate customers over there, too, even if they manage to retain/obtain talented chefs.
