The Best Pizza in Lakewood Is...

Angelo’s runs away with the top prize at the annual Kiwanis Club Pizza Bake-Off at Lakewood High School.

The number of ballots filled out at the second-annual Lakewood Pizza Bake-Off could be a decent indication of the event’s success.

About half way through the three-hour long event on Thursday, organizers ran out of ballots.

More than 600 people attended the event in the cafeteria at Lakewood High School, and lines stretched at every vendor table.

In the end, Angelo’s was the winner of the People’s Choice award.

Roman Fountain took second place and Donato’s took third.

David Norton, the president of the Kiwanis Club of Lakewood, said he’d hoped to raise $5,000, with the proceeds going toward helping Lakewood organizations.

Done and done.

“It was a great showing,” Norton said. “All 14 vendors were very happy with the results.”

In the other winning categories:

“It looks we might have a third one next year,” Norton added. “I think Lakewood folks can look forward to the Lakewood Pizza Bake-Off in 2014.”

In case you missed it, here were the participants:

Angelo’s; Dewey’s; Domino’s; Donato’s; Geppetto’s; Hungry Howie; Jibaro; Nunzio’s; Papa John’s; Pepper’s; Pizza Hut; Players on Madison; Roman Fountain; and Tommy’s

Food competitions are fixed. A real competition will have the judges do blind taste tests somewhat like the show, Taste. Company names should be kept out of it.
