‘Starry Night’ Event Raises $130,000 to Fight Diabetes

Lakewood Hospital Foundation’s annual event on Aug. 3 featured food, live entertainment and auctions.

The recent Starry Night event — to raise money for Lakewood Hospital’s Diabetes Assistance Initiative — brought in more than $130,000.

That total beat last year’s by more than $15,000.

More than 650 people showed up for the sixth-annual Starry Night fundraiser at the corner of Belle and Detroit avenues Aug. 3.

All proceeds from the twilight bash benefit the Diabetes Assistance Initiative – a program of the Lakewood Hospital Diabetes and Endocrine Center.

With attendees shelling out $125 a ticket, organizers had hoped to surpass last year's total raised.

Net proceeds directly benefit patients through the Lakewood Hospital Diabetes and Endocrine Center’s Diabetes Assistance Initiative and community education efforts.

And who could forget the food?

The kitchen staffs of the Cleveland Clinic hospitals competed in a judged contest for the best food.

The guests enjoyed New Orleans-inspired comfort food and gourmet delights prepared and served by ARAMARK. The event also featured live jazz entertainment provided by The Killer Watt Hours, and both a silent and live auction.

Sound appetizing, but you missed this year’s event?

Those unable to attend the event but would still like to contribute to the cause, are encouraged to call the Lakewood Hospital Foundation at 216-529-7009.
