Say 'So Long' to the Screaming Rooster

The Madison Avenue restaurant and bar with the peculiar name officially closed its doors on Sunday.

Over the past decade, three restaurants have come and gone at 15527 Madison Ave.

There was Characters Sports Bar and Grill, The Old Stand, and, last but not least, The Screaming Rooster.

Each incarnation shared several of the same drinks and menu options; although, "The Rooster" managed to draw in fresh patrons with live music, ski ball, a pool table, dedicated management and several flat screen TVs.

Unfortunately, the efforts to reinvigorate the aging space fell short, and the bar closed its doors on Easter Sunday.

Barrio, a trendy Mexican restaurant in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood, will soon transform the three-storefront space tucked between Dollar Bank and The Patio Tavern.

Plans call for the restaurant to open by May 5 — just in time for Cinco de Mayo.

Tom Leneghan, one of the partners in the project, told Patch in March that “Lakewood is a gem” and “a perfect fit” for the new venture.

“We feel that Barrio is a great fit in Tremont and it’s going to be a great fit in Lakewood,” he said. “What you’ve got in Lakewood, and what we don’t have in Tremont, is 52,000 people in a small footprint. Tremont only has 9,000 and there’s a saturation of bars and restaurants there.”
