Reps to Discuss Construction of New McDonald's at Old Detroit Theatre Location

Representatives from the fast food giant will go before the Lakewood Architectural Board of Review this Thursday to discuss concept building designs and a redevelopment plan which calls for the demolition of the nearly 90-year-old theatre.

Later this week, McDonald’s representatives will appear before the Lakewood Architectural Board of Review to present concept building designs and redevelopment plans for the now defunct Detroit Theatre.

According to the ABR agenda, reps from the burger giant have stated the work session is neither a formal application to the board, nor is it a request for approval. Rather, McDonald’s will give the presentation and ask for feedback in respect to design.

Over the past several weeks, many Lakewood residents have been swept up in the controversial redevelopment plan which calls for the demolition of the nearly 90-year-old theatre.

However, despite some public opposition, there’s little the City can do as McDonald’s has all but finalized the deal to purchase the property for $700,000 from owner Norman Barr.

The work session is open to the public and will be held this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Lakewood City Hall auditorium.

I've heard/read conflicting times for this meeting ... 5:30 or 6:30? City website (Events Calendar) shows 6:30.

ABR's board of building standards/sign review board meeting is at 5:30 p.m., immediately followed by the regular ABR meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Hope that helps!
