Patchers React to Sale of Sullivan's Irish Pub

Lakewood Patch readers have a few ideas on what should replace the defunct Irish pub.

Good news is, Patrick Sullivan – the former owner of Sullivan's Irish Pub – has sold the defunct restaurant to Tony George, the owner of Harry Buffalo.

Sullivan's Property Has a New Owner

Bad news is, it appears George doesn't have plans to reopen or convert the space into something new; rather, he's shown interest in reselling the property to someone else.

When hearing of the update Tuesday, readers took to Patch's Facebook page and comment board to offer their opinions.

Here's what they had to say:

  • Ryan Reardon - Reinvent the place, keep the authentic Irish feel but bring in a newer menu alongside the traditional foods....and don't overprice your beer! Its pretty much turnkey with a nice patio and could be lucrative if managed correctly.
  • Michael Lambert - Since the Irish are not really known for their food (no offense to Claddaugh's), maybe they should change it into an Italian restaurant and wine bar. We have plenty of traditional bars in Lakewood.
  • Denny Petkovsek - I don't know about Italian, there's enough of them around, including Players, right down the street. I say go traditional Slovenian and/or Hungarian...

I really like Michael Lambert's idea for an Italian restaurant... I think that's mostly because I still miss Maria's Roman Room

Lets face it, Lakewood does not have a really, really good Italian (sit down) restaurant....yes, there is Peppers and Italian Creations and even Players BUT these are not the quality type of Italian Restaurants I am speaking of....We need a good team of people to come in and make this a real Italian restaurant....nothing out of a frozen sysco box or pre made pizza doughs....if not Italian, than certainly a family style place like a Joes Deli...I would love to see a strong ethnic based venue in here...can you imagine if the Sokolowski's were to come here? Especially since Barrio is coming in from Tremont, why not approach the Sokolowski's? Irish themed? How much bangers and mash and shepherds pie can one eat in the course of a year?

I would love to see a cheese shop open in Lakewood. I think the community would support it.

Can't believe people are disparaging the food. No, the Irish aren't known for it, but I'd kill for some Sullivan's boxty wedges right now.

If I ever duplicate the recipe, I'll share for all the world.

I am with Heather and JC! I would love to see an Irish place go back in there not only for the food but for the atmosphere that already exists in this location!!!

agreed. this was a true pub where you could enjoy a little dinner, listen to a little music, and soak in a little atmosphere with your family. This is what an Irish pub should be, unlike some punch palace full of angry drunks fixin' for an altercation. It is turn-key now. Lakewood need a nice Italian place, I agree, but not at the Sullivan's location.

If someone were to reopen, what should the owner do about the Mug Club? Disband? renew?

Sokolowski's would be awesome! They have amazing food and I enjoy the cafeteria style dining. It's good to have a hearty, home cooked, authentic meal at a fair price.
