Police Search for (and Find) Missing 8-Year-Old Boy

Grant Elementary School student found at friend's house.

A Grant Elementary School student gave his mom quite a scare on Friday night.

The 8-year-old boy’s mother called police at around 5 p.m. saying he hadn’t come home from school on Friday afternoon.

Police immediately began an investigation.

He was found near the school at a friend’s house less than an hour later.

One witness told Lakewood Patch that about seven squad cars arrived at Grant Elementary School around 5:30 p.m.

Officers wearing bulletproof vests were seen through the school’s large windows roaming the halls.

Lt. Roger Warner said the boy was safely returned to his mother.

“We found the kid, and he’s back where he belongs,” said Warner.

Kudos to the Lakewood police for taking this seriously and reacting swiftly.

Sorry, but that sounds like overkill. Kids can't just be kids anymore, a little absentminded...too damn much tv scaring parents to death all the time...hate the media for turning parents into chronically fearful people....

You say that, Alexandra, til it's your kid that was found dead in a field or dumpster with obvious signs of torture before they died. Read up on John Wayne Gacy and see how many young boy's lives could've been saved if the police would've taken seriously from the beginning and had been vigilant.

And are you saying you wouldn't have called the cops if you hadn't heard from your 8 year old 2 hours after school let out?

Alexandra- Right?! If the kid doesn't come home from school just relax! No need for concern. I mean, the kid has been alive for eight whole years! You can bet he knows what he's doing. He'll wander back eventually. are u picking up the sarcasm? i hope so cuz i'm laying it on pretty thick.
Patch Reader- I second your kudos. everyone knows the first 24 hrs in a missing person case are the most crucial so pulling out all the stops immediately is certainly warranted.

wow. with some of the harsh comments on here, i'd hate it if THOSE people were MY parents. I'd actually WANT people looking for me. If a child is expected home and doesn't return you actually wouldn't call for help?? Wow.
