New Quaker Steak and Lube Hiring 150 Employees
The Pennsylvania-based restaurant is expected to open its doors at 15314 Detroit Avenue on Aug. 15.
The new Quaker Steak and Lube coming to the Lakewood Plaza is bringing as many 150 new jobs with it.
The full-time and part-time positions include cooks, servers, bartenders, bussers and dishwashers.
The restaurant has already hired 130 people, said general manager Tony Pepe.
"And most of them are Lakewood residents," he said.
There are still 20 additional positions — including some servers — that need to be filled.
“That’s a lot of jobs,” said Mayor Michael Summers. “The nice thing about those jobs is there are variety of skill levels. If you’re looking for a job, it’s great news.”
As construction at the new restaurant — affectionately called "The Lube" — moves along, a trailer has been posted behind the Masonic Temple near the new restaurant for those interested in applying in person.
Those interested are encouraged to stop by between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Employee training is set to start at the beginning of August.
The restaurant — perhaps best-known for its wings — is a smaller version than most of its locations.
But this “concept store” is anything but typical.
At 6,600 square feet, this Quaker Steak and Lube is much smaller than most of the others across the country.
"This is our first urban location in the country," said David Miller, the company's vice president of operations, who has been staying in the area while work on the restaurant wraps up. "We could have done a bigger (restaurant), but we think this will fit the neighborhood very well."
The Pennsylvania-based restaurant chain is expected to open its doors at 15314 Detroit Avenue on Aug. 15.
"We really want to be involved in the community," said Pepe. "Because that's what we're about."
