New Car Wash Eyed on Detroit Avenue

New “express wash” would replace a multiple bay, do-it-yourself car wash at 16910 Detroit Avenue.

A car wash on Detroit Avenue may meet a wrecking ball to make way for another car wash.

A proposal to demolish the existing Self Service Maxi Wash at 16910 Detroit Avenue was submitted to the Lakewood Planning Commission.

A new Wash Stop would be built at the location. The Lube Stop at the front of the property would remain.

The plans call for a 120-feet wash tunnel, with eight to 10 free vacuum stations and two automated pay stations.

The do-it-yourself model would be replaced with a high-tech automatic car wash that would take a vehicle through a tunnel, according to the plans submitted to the city.

The plans boast a new car wash that features a LEED-certified building; 100 percent water reclamation capability; and annual sustainability reporting.

The proposed hours of operation would be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; and closed on Sundays.

The proposal would have to adhere to the city’s new ordinance on businesses with a drive-thru.

The planning commission is set to meet at Lakewood City Hall at 7 p.m. July 5.

I want this in my city.

I'll apologize in advance if this offends anyone.

OH NO! Is this another modern update for an existing business? RUN TO THE HILLS! In Lakewood you're supposed to wash your car with a galvanized metal bucket and grandpas old t-shirts! The fabric of our community is being torn to shreds by this new car-wash!

the water reclaimation system is a nice feature for this. I've designed one in the past for a city maintenance facility, and they're expensive. Based on the brief detail, it'll probably be a very nice quality facility. The downside is that it'll probably be an expensive wash, so I'll be sticking to washing my own ride. or the DIY wash on 140th... sorry. I'm too cheap to pay $10 (or more) for a wash.

Brandon, you only offend the two small car washes already in Lakewood and the Laser Wash on 117th.

Bee Clean, is in expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for when using their car wash. Madison car wash while a little more expensive isn't that much better. Free vacuums are definitely nice as I never get everything picked up with the first dollar I waste.

not a problem for you, then. This isn't another car wash. Just an upgraded one from the existing car wash on the same site.
