New, But Seasoned, Pizzeria Opens in Lakewood

Zappitelli’s Pizzeria, with locations in Painesville and Mentor, opened its doors in Lakewood last week.

There’s a new pizzeria in town, but folks on the east side have known about it for nearly three decades.

Zappitelli’s on Madison, with sister locations in Painesville and Mentor, opened its doors in Lakewood last week.

The store, at 14201 Madison Avenue, was set to open its doors last Friday — the day after Thanksgiving — but the customers wouldn’t wait.

Owner Adam Carroll said Zappitelli’s reputation helps.

Several pizza joints have tried their luck at the location in recent years — most recently Rosaria’s Pizza.

That news doesn’t discourage Carroll.

“We’re not wasting any time,” he said. “I know we’re going to be busy.”

The menu boasts such offerings as a pizza with pretzel dough crust, wheat crust pizza and a pizza topped with lasagna. There’s also traditional pizza — with lots of toppings.

“We tried to make this location a little different,” Carroll said. “East-siders aren’t really known for their culinary creativity. We wanted to take this classic, really good, Italian-American food from our sister restaurants — big portions and low prices — and try some new stuff.”

Zappitelli’s also features other staples such as spaghetti, sandwiches and salads.

The store already employs 15 people, including Carroll’s mom, Laureen Solomon.

“We don’t feel that you have to spend a lot of money to get fine dining,” he said. “Come in, make yourself at home and we will make you something good.”

Zappatelli’s also delivers.

Hours: Open at 11 a.m. Monday through Sunday.

Address: 14201 Madison Avenue.

Phone: 216-227-ZAPP (9277).

I went there hungry, and left there full and satisfied. They will give Angelos a good run for the money as they are also reasonably priced for very good food and very nice service. Eat well everyone...

Found you flyer/menu on the counter at my bank, what a great find. I am from the east side and Zappitelli's was my "go to" favorite. Thrilled you are on the west side and will be ordering tomorrow! Welcome to Lakewood!

I work at a school on the near east side and love my students. Some days I leave with a broken heart....and a hungry stomach after late hours. I would have settled for nasty cold pizza by the slice. Adam had me sit, the staff brought me a drink, and he made a fresh pretzel crust, pepperoni pizza, and brought it to me on a plate with silverware. Changed my night and I am going to bed happy. Thank you soooooo much and welcome to the neighborhood!
