New Bike Corral Installed at the Root Café
It's docked right on Detroit Avenue, and holds up to a dozen bikes. And it's believed to be the first of its kind in Northeast Ohio.
As part of the city's Master Bike Plan , a large, bright-yellow bike corral was unveiled on Detroit Avenue in front of the Root Café on Friday afternoon.
Already known as a bike-friendly community, bikeability just got even better in Lakewood.
About 15 U-shaped bike racks are also expected to start popping up on Detroit Avenue soon.
The racks on Detroit Avenue — with a price tag of $5,000 for all of them — are just the beginning, said Dru Siley, the city’s director of planning and development.
One of the key takeaways from last year’s bike study is that in Lakewood, biking is kind of a big deal.
“It’s how people get around,” Siley told Lakewood Patch earlier this year. “We have so many folks who ride as transportation. There (are) recreational riders, people who ride to run errands, and there’s commuter riders.”

Bicycle riding (& parking) on Detroit Avenue is wonderful. Just stop riding on the sidewalks--especially riding through an intersection on a WALK light. Those are for pedestrians. I've seen too many near-misses to count at the corner of Summit & Detroit. Bikes are "vehicles" and some problematic riders in Lakewood need to start following the rules of the road--before someone gets hurt.

I agree with Janice. The city says sidewalks should be used by bikers aged 9 and younger. I have been nearly run over by an adult bike rider too many times. The streets in Lakewood are way too bicycle friendly to "have" to use the sidewalk. Please ride on the street and follow the rules of the road!

No person shall drive any vehicle, other than a bicycle, upon a sidewalk or sidewalk area except upon a permanent or duly authorized temporary driveway.
So legally, in Ohio, Bicycles can be on sidewalks.
