LOOK: Car Goes Airborne, Shears Through Trees After Police Chase
2004 Porsche now a pile of twisted metal after it cuts through trees and lands 100 feet from where it went airborne.
Two men are hospitalized after the 2004 Porsche they were riding in drove off a cliff and landed more than 100 feet below in the Cleveland Metroparks early Tuesday morning.
The car sheared off the tops of at least a few trees on its way down, before crashing in the valley below. The car came to rest as a pile of twisted wreckage.
"They're very lucky to be alive," said Capt. Gary Stone of the Lakewood Police Department.
According to news reports, the crash took place at around 3:40 a.m. after the driver fled from a traffic stop for expired plates. When the car got a lead on police, the chased was called off.
The driver then continued onto the Detroit Avenue extension, and then hit a curb in the Commodore Club Apartments parking lot — where the car went airborne for about 100 feet.
The car sliced through trees on its way down, clearing Metro Parks Drive and landed in an embankment west of the street.
A 47-year-old man and 24-year-old man — both of Fairview Park — were taken to area hospitals.
Stone said they suffered "non-life-threatening" injuries.
At least one of the men was listed in critical condition, but those reports could not be confirmed.
Metro Parks Drive was temporarily closed but re-opened by 6 a.m.

If it was just expired plates why run? There was probably some more serious thing they were afraid the police would get them for....just my opinion

I personally know the owner of this car (passenger). He was heavy into drugs and alcohol and would never drive under the influence thus why the other guy was driving. I do not know the driver but have my own thoughts on why he was even driving the car. I'm am very saddened at this but saw it coming with the path he was taking. I tried to guide him but unfortunately he made his own choices and I could not continue our friendship. I pray that he wakes up fine and not brain dead and is able to restart his life again.
