This unique wine opener from 44 Steel is made from a fence that used to be outside an Ohio City restaurant.
Cambria Creations is a North Canton business that sells original and custom made jewelry.
Westlake painter Dani Altieri Marinucci sells greeting cards and prints on her website.

Looking for that perfect holiday gift? We rounded up area sources for handmade gifts. Check out the list below.

  • 44 Steel: Rocky River welder Jason Radcliffe’s website features custom industrial-style furniture, but he also sells smaller items, like $20 wine stoppers. One is made from a steel fence at an Ohio City restaurant. Contact Jason Radcliffe at his website to order.
  • Crafty Goodness: This Lakewood store offers 100 percent locally-made merchandise, from home décor to jewelry, and arts and crafts classes. Address, hours, and more information here.
  • Cambria’s Creations: Cambria Wolfe makes lovely jewelry and takes orders for custom pieces. And don’t worry about the drive. This North Canton store has an Etsy page, too, so you can order online.
  • The Kiln: This Brecksville shop sells pottery that you paint at the store. Personalize anything from a coffee mug to a pet food bowl for anyone on your list. More information here.
  • Ewes d'Bleu Yarns of Distinction: Always wanted to learn to knit, or brush up on your skills? This Beachwood shop offers knitting classes from beginner to novice, so you can be the local artist. More information here, and check out this photo gallery of their fall scarf ideas.
  • Dani Altieri Marinucci: This Westlake painter makes holiday cards starting at $4.95, plus originals, acrylic prints, canvas prints  and commission work. Prices range from $22-$100 for prints - see her gallery here.
  • Heights Arts: This nonprofit arts gallery in Cleveland Heights is selling the work of more than 60 artists from Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights, Chagrin Falls and other areas in Northeast Ohio. Artists included in the photo gallery include Sue Berry, who is selling blown glass ornaments for $20 at the gallery, Genevieve Schwartz, whose $27 bracelets are going fast and Susan Roberts, who is selling felted pins starting at just $8.

One of the nicest places to shop for gifts locally is the Department of Disabilities Christmas shop on Whipple Ave. They have a large selection of great gifts made locally at the workshops run by DD. There is a great ceramic santa gift bag that is one of my favorites.

In North Canton we have many homemakers who double as demonstrators for home parties. There are Longaberger, Pampered Chef, Tupperware, Simply Tasty and others who can place an order for you. Although they are not handmade gifts they are local.

Anyone have some suggestions on where to get locally made gifts in Stow?

No offense intended, but why is Brecksville Patch highlighting specialty stores outside our area when there are many right here, like the yarn store in Beachwood when we have a wonderful specialty yarn shop in Broadview Hts., owned by a local resident? Good to see The Kiln highlighted, but don't forget Soft 'n Sassy!!

Thanks for the comment Jeanne. We are posting them on several Patch sites so we can get local recommendations in our towns too. (I'm the editor in Stow.) So we appreciate the suggestions and we can easy update and add them to this post!

I'll second Amanda—thanks for the suggestion, Jeanne! Sometimes, we want to give readers a regional overview. Don't worry, though; you can check Brecksville Patch next week for some more gift ideas right in town.

Anybody looking for something made locally without having to leave Kent, my wife and I have started a ceramics and custom art business called Soliloquy. Some of our items can be found at Sue Nelson Designs in downtown Kent. Our website is in the process of being updated to include all the holiday items currently available. We can be contacted by email at Soliloquy.cc@gmail.com to show you the other items we have right now. Our website is www.soliloquy.cc

I think the point of the story is that no matter where you live, if you look, you can find handmade items. Just look through the "Places" section of each Patch site to see all the diverse businesses listed within. That is the charm of Ohio...so many local businesses make it easy to find whatever you're looking for right in your backyard. And note to local businesses, if you haven't claimed your directory listing in the Places section...get going and do it!
