Lakewood Park Bandstand Getting an Overhaul

Rain postpones the volunteer-led project, spearheaded by Lakewood-based Neubert Painting.

A Lakewood-based painting company has volunteered their “time and talent” to transform one of the city’s favorite attractions.

The project to strip, scrape, sand and paint the Lakewood Park Bandstand was expected to be finished on Tuesday.

Then, the rain came.

Although dozens of volunteers started on the project on Tuesday morning, the final product will have to wait.

Lakewood-based Neubert Painting volunteered time, money and more than 35 years of experience to transform the bandstand, the 2012 recipient of the company’s annual Charity Paint Giveaway.

“Lakewood residents have welcomed us into their homes and trusted us to help maintain their homes for more than 30 years, so we’re very excited to give back to the community in a way that all Lakewood residents can enjoy,” said Neubert Painting CEO and founder John Neubert, in a prepared statement.

In addition, Cleveland-based Sherwin Williams donated 50 gallons of paint and stain to complete he project.

The project is valued at total estimated $10,000.

It won’t cost taxpayers a dime.

Lakewood Mayor Mike Summers said that’s good news for the city.

“We were pleased to find out Neubert was donating their services,” he said in a statement. “They’ve been part of Lakewood for many years and we appreciate them. Our beautiful park is enjoyed by not only by Lakewood residents, but by many others from the area, and this certainly will help us to make a good impression to visitors.”
