Two Men Face Charges After Second Heroin Overdose Occurs In Apartment In Less Than a Month
This incident occurred in the same apartment where someone fatally overdosed in January
The same apartment on Halstead Avenue has been the site of two heroin overdoses in less than a month's time.
And both overdoses have led to investigations by Lakewood Police Department and criminal charges.
The first overdose occurred on Jan. 23.
On that day, Donald Lanum, 29, of Lakewood, is accused of accidentally killing a 44-year-old man named Freddie Fordyce by giving him a lethal injection of heroin into his arm.
The second overdose occurred Saturday evening.
A 37-year-old man, a visitor at the apartment, is suspected of injecting himself with heroin. He overdosed but paramedics resuscitated him, and he survived, Lakewood Police Chief Tim Malley said.
He will now face charges charges of paraphernalia possession and occupying a drug premises.
The 30-year-old resident at the apartment, who was home at the time of the overdose, has been charged with permitting drug abuse, possession of a hypodermic needle and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Furthermore, the owners of the building in which both overdoses occurred have been charged with maintaining a public nuisance, Malley said.
