Lakewood Cross Country Teams Qualify Runners for Regional Meet
Maeve Christie is the first girl to qualify for the Rangers for the Regional Cross Country Meet since 2004. Boys finish fourth, team headed for Regional Meet.
Both the boys and girls cross country teams from Lakewood High School posted some impressive results at the District Championships in Lorain County over the weekend.
And, a few runners qualified for this weekend’s Regional Meet in Tiffin.
Maeve Christie, who took 11th place with her 20:27 finish, led the Lady Rangers, said assistant coach Stephanie Toole.
Maeve, a junior, was in the third grade the last time that the Lady Rangers placed a runner in the Regional Meet in 2004.
She will compete as an individual in the meet at Hedges Boyer Park, in Tiffin at 3 p.m. Saturday.
With its sixth-place finish, the team fell just short of qualifying for the regional meet, said Toole.
Rounding out the team scoring for the Lady Rangers were juniors Alyssa Hasman, Grace Latham, senior Hannah Gregory and sophomore Mikayla Harper. Also competing were juniors Yasmeen Shafik and Anna Riddle.
“Finishing out an outstanding 2012 cross country season, the Lady Ranger team finished with a record of 106-40 record and will be returning six of the seven varsity runners,” said Toole.
The boys squad finished fourth at the District Cross Country Meet, and will compete in Saturday’s Regional Meet in Tiffin.
The seven varsity runners who will be racing for the Rangers are junior Nick Boatman and senior Ben Toole — who both qualified as individuals — as well as freshman Jacob Gregory, seniors Peter Quigley and Sam Aprile, junior Nick LaCerva and sophomore Bely Stockman.
